Construction of the facility that will liquefy the gas extracted from the Coral South perimeter in Mozambique began in 2018. Once completed, it is expected to be connected to existing subsea infrastructure for production to begin in 2022.
At the end of June, an Eni spokesperson had announced that the platform would be installed at the Coral South production site in December, without announcing the date on which it would leave South Korea. It should be remembered that the Coral South FLNG development schedule has not really been disrupted by the terrorist threat in the north of the country, as unlike the Mozambique LNG project, Coral South FLNG will be operated offshore, with a capacity of 3.4 million tonnes of LNG per year.
"The Coral South FLNG is a global feat of engineering, construction know-how and technology, tailored to kick-start the development of Mozambique's world-class resources [...]. It will soon be moored at its operating site in the Rovuma basin, offshore Mozambique," said Stefano Maione, Eni's director of development, operations and energy efficiency.
Coral South FLNG will be based on gas reserves of 450 billion m3. Eni's partners in the project are Exxon Mobil, CNPC, GALP, Korea Gas Corp and ENH, Mozambique's state-owned hydrocarbon company.
